Me & My Role:
My name is Ruth Davie (Community Nutritionist) and I manage Fundamental Foods under the umbrella of the Pennypit Community Development Trust (PCDT). I worked in the Substance Misuse field for nearly 20 years before returning to education in 2009, graduating with an honours degree in Nutrition at QMU. Not long after graduating I was employed by PCDT as a community nutritionist to assist in developing a community based nutrition programme which then led to the birth of Fundamental Foods. Over the years Fundamental Foods has developed a deep rooted connection within the local and wider community in East Lothian; our main aim is to reduce nutritional inequalities and improve health and well-being.
We have had the opportunity to develop and facilitate a 'Lunch Club' model and tackle holiday hunger. Our team of nutritionists are passionate about offering a nutritious breakfast and lunch along with providing cooking opportunities for the children and young people wherever possible, this will also improve their eating habits at home.
I have always been a passionate person who likes to help, encourage and support people to make a difference in their own lives and I believe that food connects us in a way that gives us the ability to do so.
